After another long day of 6+ hours I think I am done assignment #2!!!
With a little help from some websites and my fiancee (a UBC MET student) I was able to take all of my hard work and create a Google Site. The resources I selected and MARC records I created were all formatted and then entered into the site I created. By the time I was done I was exhausted, but ever so proud of myself.
At the start of the assignment I never thought I would be able create MARC records for 20+ resources, let alone create a working website for them. However, after a lengthy selection process and the creation/formatting of resources I can proudly say I have created my own digital library. What makes me even happier is that 90% of the records are completely accessible online. As a result, I think I will be able to use this site with my students to teach World War Two to my SS11 and History 12 students.
So...after weeks of hard work and 12+ hours invested this weekend alone, I do believe I am done assignment #2!!! Yay.
Now I will reward myself with a rootbeer and a few good hours sleep before work on Monday! Goodnight!
Follow me on my journey to become a Teacher-Librarian. Or at the very least gain a knowledge of how their job works!

MARC Records complete
I am happy to announce that after a long week of work, I have completed the last of my MARC records for my digital resources. I have been sitting at my computer for the past four hours and am so glad to be done. I completed a quick check to ensure that I am consistent in my records...and I think I am.
At this point I am taking a well deserved break (according to me) and then will be back at it tomorrow.
Next on my list is to figure out how to create a Google Site or Weebly so that I can get all of my hard work uploaded on to the world wide web.
At this point I am tired and my eyes are square. However, I am not as angry and hostile towards MARC as I thought I would be. Strangely I am quite please and proud of what I was able to accomplish. I hope that tomorrow is equally as successful and I can begin getting these records viewable to the rest of you.

More Records Complete...
After I got home from work/school today I took a few hours to work on creating MARC records for the large course assignment. I followed the model of other students and used the MARC tag information I could find online.
While the process was very tedious and time consuming it really wasn't that bad. In about two hours I was able to create 7 MARC records from scratch. I was very proud of myself; especially considering that my sources are all digital/online therefore they do not have existing records. As a result I have had to create them from scratch. With a few more hours invested tomorrow and on the weekend I hope to have all of my MARC records complete.
Then the next task will be creating a web page where I can have a directory or catalogue of the resources I have collected and recorded.
The process will have to continue another day. As for now I am off to watch TV then read (both of which will be in English and not MARC!).

Where Dewey Find It?
Below is the activity which I created for teaching students, and library users in general, about the Dewey Decimal System. It is difficult to teach users about numbers in an interesting way, however I believe that this activity (a sort of scavenger hunt) could be fun and educational at the same time! I hope you enjoy.
Title:
Where Dewey Find It?
Rationale:
The following activities are simple ways to teach students how to find items in the library using the Dewey Decimal System. Students will have an opportunity to learn the system in a cooperative activity which makes use of visual cues. The detailed steps are listed below.
***Note: I did not create the library map as each library may vary. However, using the floor plan of your library, a Dewey map can be created quite easily with limited effort.
The Activity:
1.) Providing Background
- Discuss how the Dewey Decimal System works
oNumerically
oAlphabetically by author name
2.) Take students down to the library
3.) Arrange them in small groups
4.) Provide students with a bird’s eye view map of the library
-The map will have the following things labelled:
oShelf Locations
oSubject Headings for each shelf
oDewey Classification Numbers for each shelf
5.) Selecting Items
-Give students a list of nine subjects (representing the 9 different classes in the Dewey system)
-Each group must select an item from each subject area
6.) Sorting Items
-Once at their table, students have to sort the books based on their call number and author’s last name
Extension Activity:
1.) Steps 3 & 4 remain the same
2.) Provide Students with Five Items
3.) Shelving Items
-Using their maps and the experience gained in the previous activity, students must shelve the items in their correct location

Assignment #2 - My collection continues to grow
Over the past few days I have started collecting resources for assignment #2. While I am normally a very organized person I have found it very difficult to collect all the information for each resource and keep it organized. Therefore, I tried Delicious as a way to "bookmark" the online sources I would be using. So far this process seems to be working and I have developed a collection of close to 25 online resources.
Now the task is to find or create MARC records for these resources. Since I am trying to do this digitally with online documents, books and streaming video/audio it will be a daunting task as I will have to create most of my own MARC records. However, by picking away at it a few hours at a time I should be able to get this done.
The end result will hopefully be a great digital collection of materials related to World War Two and the Social Studies 11 curriculum.

Delicious is a tasty treat!
After trashing Delicious weeks ago, I am realizing its value. It is even proving to be useful finding digital resources for Assignment Two. I have created an account and am finding resources left, right and centre. It's so fantastic to be able to bookmark pages and have an easy to follow record of the great sites I have found!
Thank you Delicious! You are taking what seems to be a difficult and time consuming task and making it much easier! Yay technology.

I'm Sorry TLs... I never knew.
As I begin work on Assignment two I am shocked at how much information is included in records for each resource. I realize that there should be a lot of points of access so that users can find resources in a catalogue system with ease, however there are just so many to include when creating records.
There has to be an easier way to create catalogue records. If I was a TL I would definitely try to copy or purchase them where possible and then make additions where necessary.
As I begin Assignment Two I am realizing just how many tedious tasks TL's have to deal with. I'm sorry TL's for never realizing just how much work you have to do!
